The Patriots played Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles but sat many of the regulars to include Tom Brady, Wes Welker, and Vince Wolfork. Twenty-seven regulars out of the 90 players in training camp did not even take part in Monday Night’s nationally televised game at Gillette Stadium. This could be attributed to the quick-turnaround on the schedule for the Patriots.

The Patriots now suit up on Friday night against the Buccaneers and the approach to this game should be pretty basic for both teams. Head coach Bill Belichick is very good friend s with Buccaneer front man, Greg Schiano.

In fact the teams are spending the week leading up to the game practicing with one another. This has set up a “helping” atmosphere to benefit both teams.

“I know it’s going to be a benefit for us,” Schiano said, “and I don’t think coach Belichick would bring them down if he didn’t think it would be a benefit for them. I like watching other teams and seeing how they practice, watching our players in relation to theirs. In a game, it’s one thing. In practice, it’s a little different.”

The Patriots did this in week one when they practiced with the New Orleans Saints. The end result of that game was a 7-6 victory for the Patriots in a very vanilla game, focusing on the fundamentals.

I don’t understand how anyone can drop six points with the Patriots in this game. It may be just preseason but the public consensus is still jumping on the Patriots with 54 percent of the public stupidly backing the Pats.

The Patriots have some injuries on the front line and will not risk Brady taking a big hit in the preseason.[poll id=”29″]

The Patriots have played with a two back set in the preseason although it is a formation that will rarely be used in the regular season. It is very clear that the Patriots have no intentions of playing to win this preseason. They are using basic sets, resting key players and working on scenarios, not victories.

Now Belichick goes up against a friend and the last thing he would want to do is blow out his rookie head coach counterpart.

The Buccaneers are disappointed in their last outing against the Tennessee Titans. The Buccaneers will use the Patriots as a measuring stick for where they are right now and they will play inspired ball.

Schiano described his team’s performance as “sloppy”. With that in mind, the Bucs will play this game with the intention of executing properly and that will keep this game close.

The Patriots are playing out the preseason with no sense of urgency and could care less about winning, never mind covering the number.
