The Jets will hog the spotlight with the talk surrounding the play of Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow at quarterback. Tebow will allow the Jets to give defenses different looks with the “Wildcat†formation and running situations. The Jets do have to be concerned with injuries.
Santonio Holmes is still out with bruised ribs.Jeremy Kerley is out with a hamstring. Jordan White is questionable. Eric Smith is out due to his knee. Coach Rex Ryan says Chaz Schilens is not expected to play. Sione Po’uha is still out with a back injury and will miss the rest of the preseason games.
The Daily News reports that the starters for the Jets will play the first half of the game. Tebow and Sanchez will get split time throughout most of the game with Greg McElroy mopping up late in the game.
For the Giants, it’s injuries that have them concerned.
Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (broken foot), linebackers Michael Boley (hamstring) and Jacquian Williams (hip), cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee), defensive tackle Chris Canty (knee) and tight end Travis Beckum (knee) are among the notables who won’t participate on Saturday.
Eli Manning will start but should not go deep in this game and the output should be vanilla. It is obvious that coach Tm Coughlin is not about winning in the preseason. His team had a dominating lead against the Jaguars and did not seem to care about the outcome in the second half.
Coughlin will look to execute in the first half and keep his players healthy. Rex Ryan on the other hand wants his team to win after struggling in week one. His seat will get much hotter if Tebow and the new-look Jets don’t start showing some positive steps.
Sanchez is looking better in the huddle during practice and needs to take over. He will shine tonight and make Tebow a footnote to this game. The Giants will keep it close in the first half, but the Jets run away with this game in the second half.
