2018 NFL Week 3 Betting Lines and Odds
The NFL week 3 betting lines and odds feature some incredible games for the third week of the season. Last week if you followed the early betting line and the movement it would have revealed some value. We always use the early odds when posting our free winning picks and we will use these number again as we post our NFL week 3 ATS picks for every game. Keep in mind that these are the opening lines and they may be very different when you go to the betting window.
Thursday Night NFL
The early game features two teams hoping to change things for the future. The Thursday night game is always difficult for the road team as they have to prepare on a short week. That could mean trouble for Sam Darnold and the Jets. This line opened up with the Browns as small (-2) favorites. Although the Browns will have a new kicker the line has actually jumped and is now (-3) in favor of the Browns. We have yet to lose a Thursday night football game and we have another free pick lined up for the Jets vs Browns.Â
This game is really interesting and that betting line should move. The latest reports indicate that Carson Wentz could be good to go for this game against the Colts.
From @gmfb Weekend: #Eagles QB Carson Wentz could be cleared this week, but what does that mean? Meanwhile, throwing guru Adam Dedeaux says Wentz spins it better than ever: https://t.co/3LBQp83dMO pic.twitter.com/p8U5uBhn4R

The early line shows that the Eagles are (-7) favorites, but that line will jump if Wentz is indeed cleared to face Andrew Luck and the Colts.
After a win against the Baltimore Ravens, the Bengals have caught the attention of the public sports bettors. Now they head to Carolina to take on the Panthers. The opening line shows that the Panthers are (-4) point favorites. After the loss to the Falcons, the line has dipped and can now be found at (-3.5) across the board.
I correctly predicted that the Jaguars would stun the Patriots and now they are the talk of the AFC. This is a huge win for the Jags franchise mainly because they were 0-8 against Tom Brady and the Patriots. Now they host a Titans team that swept the Jags a season ago. The sportsbooks dangled a (-6.5) for this game, but that will surely change when the Titans announce who the starting quarterback will be for this game.
This could be the game of the week as the Falcons want to get the edge in this division. Both teams secured a victory in week two, but the Falcons had the more impressive win. This line opened with a (-3) in favor of the home team. This is the normal number for home field advantage in the NFL, which means this could be one of the closest games of the week.
The Broncos are an early surprise teams in the NFL. They now travel to the East Coast to take on a Baltimore team that has extra rest after playing last Thursday. Sportsbooks are not impressed by the Broncos quick start. The line opened up at Ravens (-4) and has been moved up to (-5.5) at most offshore football betting outlets.
It may be too early for “must-wins†and elimination games, but that is exactly what we have when the New York Giants take on the Houston Texans. Both teams play in difficult divisions and cannot afford a third loss to start the season. The Texans (-3.5) opened as favorites and that number has slowly moved up to (-4).
The Dolphins are the surprise team of the year up to this point. They are undefeated and they face a winless Raiders team that will have to travel across country for this early kickoff. Despite the record and the travels, the Dolphins opened (-3) and that got the hook and the Raiders are now (+3.5) point underdogs.
The banged up Packers hobble their way to the Nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins. Aaron Rodgers looked healthy against the Vikings and that has caused the Redskins to be home underdogs in this game. They are catching anywhere from (+2) to (+3) depending on what sportsbook you bet at.
After an ugly loss to the Chargers, it seems clear that the Bills are one of the worst teams in the NFL. The sportsbooks seem to agree as the Bills were opened as (-16) and that number has jumped to (-17). It’s hard to trust a Bills team that is starting a rookie on offense, giving up sacks and playing miserable defense. The Vikings could be looking ahead to a showdown, but it’s hard to back the Bills.
The Chiefs are the darling team of the year. Patrick Mahomes is lighting up scoreboards with his arm and that is disguising a so-so Chiefs defense that is beatable. The 49ers beat the Lions, but it wasn’t pretty. They got a late holding call and were inconsistent in all phases of the game. It’s obvious that the Chiefs will become favorites of the betting public. They opened as (-6) in this game and that was quickly hammered up to (-7) at many sportsbooks.
The Rams are winning with defense as they have not given up a score in six quarters. It should be noted that they have played the Cardinals and the Raiders, two of the worst teams in the league, up to this point. That changes against a decent offense on Sunday when they face Philip Rivers and the Chargers. This game will decide which one of these teams are for real. Right now the bettors are buying into the Rams as they opened as (-6) and they have now been pushed to (-7). It is easy to see why over 70% of the betting action is on the Rams.
The Bears have a short week to prepare for the Cardinals. This is usually a tough spot, but the Cardinals have struggled especially on offense. The Cardinals have only converted 4 of 24 third down attempts. That could call for a change at quarterback sooner than later. Before the Monday night football game, the Bears were posted at (-4.5) for this game.
The Seahawks also get a short week to prepare for the Cowboys who were able to get into the win column against the Giants. The post-MNF line has the Seahawks listed as (-3) point favorites making this a close game to call.
Sunday Night Football
New England Patriots vs Detroit Lions
This line will be hyped as Bill Belichick against his disciple in Matt Patricia, but in reality it’s a big game for both teams. The Patriots looked beatable on defense and the Lions are at home in a prime time game that they must win if they have hopes of turning the season around. Sportsbooks never have a shortage of Patriots money as this line opened at (-6) and has now been bet up to (-7) at some of the best sports betting sites. Over 85% of the early bets are on the Patriots making this a very lopsided Sunday night affair.
Monday Night Football
A couple of weeks ago the point spread in this game would have been much different. Now with the Buccaneers rolling and the Steelers reeling this line is much smaller. It is still a bit surprising to see that the Steelers are (-2.5) road favorites (a few (-3) can be found if you look). The Buccaneers will be tempting home dogs, but the Steeler money should keep this line balanced.
