The Thursday night game between the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Rams is a pretty big divisional game although it is only week four in the National Football League. The 49ers are off back to back embarrassing losses and they are having big issues. Patrick Willis is injured, Aldon Smith is in rehab and the 49ers defense is beatable. The Niners are giving up 138 yards per game on the ground, which ranks 29th in the league. Last week, the Colts bludgeoned the Niners with the run, carrying 39 times for 179 yards on their way to a time of possession edge of 12 minutes and 50 seconds. They are also having trouble on the offensive side of the ball.

San Francisco running backs have rushed for just 176 yards on 53 carries this season, a 3.3-yard average. The Rams have not played well, but they have reasons to be excited for this game. Sam Bradford has attempted the most passes in the league so far through three games with 141. On the positive side of things, he also leads the league in completions with 88 which suggests he has been on target the majority of the time. The Rams will look to run more and the balance on offense will make them a upset watch for this week.

The Thursday night NFL betting trends favor the Rams in this game. The 49ers are 2-5-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 8 road games against a team with a losing home record, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss of more than 14 points and 0-5 ATS in the last five games against the NFC West.

The Rams are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game, 7-1 ATS in their last 8 against the NFC West, and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game. The Rams have done quite well in this series of late. They won and tied with the 49ers a year ago and the trends point out the 49ers struggles.

The 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in St. Louis and they are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.

San Francisco 49ers vs. St. Louis Rams Predictions

The 49ers are all over the place right now and no one should feel comfortable laying money on this team on the road, especially in a divisional game.  The Rams have circled this game on their schedule as a defining moment and will show up with a big win at home.
