When looking at this game and all preseason games, it’s a good idea to get a feel for the coaches’ motivation. When trying to read Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, it’s nearly impossible. If he continues his course after week one, the Buccaneers defense will know what to expect.
In the first game against the Jaguars, the Patriots used the same three formations: A spread
five-receiver look with one tailback, a power-I and a pro set. They look to keep it vanilla, but Tom Brady is likely to see his first action of the preseason. Brian Hoyer and rookie Ryan Mallett looked good in his absence, and depth does not seem to a problem at quarterback. However, it is highly doubtful they put up the same type of numbers they put up in week one, and the reason for that is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense.
Tampa Bay played Kansas City in week one of the NFL preseason and only allowed six first downs and accumulated six sacks. This was without several key players. Gerald McCoy the young defensive lineman will be back in the lineup against the Patriots and add another strong defender to the Bucs front line.
Tampa Bay signal caller Josh Freeman looked sharp against the Chiefs leading the offense to scores in three of four drives. Backup quarterback Josh Johnson was just as resourceful, passing for over 100 yards and gaining 57 yards on the ground.
Tampa Bay is at home and they will have the motivation in this game to get the win. This game will not be as close as the experts think.
