Super Bowl 2012 Predictions: Championship Odds for Every Playoff Team

The 2012 NFL playoffs are set and this year the field is wide open with plenty of teams that have a chance to win the Super Bowl.

Here is a look at each playoff team with the odds to win the championship, with a prediction on who will eventually hoist the Lombardi trophy as NFL Champions in 2012.

Broncos Will Not Win A Game in the Playoffs

The Tim Tebow story is a great story for 2012, and whether you love him or hate him, it definitely started a buzz. After backing into the playoffs, Tebow will have another chance to prove his doubters wrong by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Broncos are huge nine point dogs in this game, and even if they somehow pull off a miraculous upset they have no shot of getting to the Super Bowl, never mind winning it. It could be argued that the Broncos are the worst team in the playoffs.

Denver Broncos Prediction: Out in first round

The Cincinnati Bengals have some great young talent and this will be the start of a string of playoff runs for the Bengals.

Rookie quarterback Andy Dalton is having a sensational first year and rookie wideout AJ Green is a deadly weapon. This team has a very bright future, but it won’t pan out this year. Winning multiple games on the road is just asking too much of this young team.

Cincinnati Bengals Prediction: Out in first round

This is terrific odds on a team with the caliber of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This team is more than capable of beating the Ravens, Patriots, and any other team in the AFC. The problem is they are too banged up to make a run in the post season.

Seven top players on the Steelers have some sort of injury. Losing running back Rashard Mendenhall will be hard to recover from, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not fully recovered from a high ankle sprain.

The Steelers are one of the toughest teams in the NFL, but it won’t be enough to get through to the Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction: Squeaks by Denver and loses the following week.

The New York Giants had to beat the Dallas Cowboys in week 17 to just make the playoffs. Now they get to host the Falcons in round one of the NFL Playoffs, but it will be hard to figure out what Giants team shows up.

The one that can play with some of the best teams in the league or the one that lost to the Redskins. The Giants are just too inconsistent. Eli Manning is having a fantastic season and the Giants defensive front line is sick, but they have some big holes. The secondary is susceptible to the big play and the running game is one of the worse in the NFL.

New York Giants Prediction: Out in first week

The Houston Texans were a team I believed could win the Super bowl. Unfortunately they have been decimated by injuries to key players in key positions. Don’t sell this team short. They can still run the ball and they have one of the best defenses in the NFL.

In the past rookie quarterbacks have been known to lead their team to the big game, but T.J Yates as his work cut out for him. The Texans offense can control the clock and that will help them keep the ball away from some of the better offenses in the AFC, but they just don’t have the experience to go to the big game.

Houston Texans Prediction: Wins against Cincinnati and then lose

The odds on the Detroit Lions are very appealing considering they have an offense that can keep up with the Packers and the Saints in the NFC. The problem is the secondary.

Their secondary has been torched by Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers already this year and that will not be fixed before the playoffs begin. Another noticeable shortcoming is the fact that Lions have penalty issues and in the playoffs that is a difference maker.

Finally drawing one of the hottest teams in the league is bad news for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Prediction: Lose in the first round

With the first round casualties out of the way, here is the next line of teams that could win it all.

The Atlanta Falcons have had their issues against elite teams and cannot seem to solve the Saints, but they are a darkhorse in the NFL Playoffs. If you are looking for a long shot to lay your money on, consider the Falcons.

The Falcons have the tools on offense to keep up with the other high power teams in the NFC, and they have a better defense. If the birds can get Michael Turner going on the ground, the Birds become unstoppable. That way they control the ball and open up the pass taking the pressure off Matt Ryan.

Atlanta Falcons Prediction: I won’t go with Super Bowl, but other NFC teams are on upset alert.

The 49ers are the second team I would consider a darkhorse. They have a team that is solid at the skill positions and unlike all of the other favorites; the 49ers have a killer defense.

The 49ers also have the best kicker in the playoffs and they know how to win on the road. Jim Harbaugh is easily the coach of the year and it will look like the best hire in NFL history, if the 49ers win the Super Bowl.

Most people will have a hard time backing Alex Smith in any playoff game, but the 49ers have a realistic shot of playing in the Super Bowl.

San Francisco 49ers Prediction: Play Hard but Alex Smith Can’t Carry Them

There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers are the best team in the NFL. That does not always equal a super bowl victory. Repeating is very difficult to do and although the road to the big game goes through Green Bay, don’t bet on a repeat.

The NFC is loaded with very good teams and the Saints played the Packers to the wire on the road in week one of the season. The Packers defense is vulnerable and they will get upset in the playoffs, failing to repeat as Champs.

Green Bay Packers Prediction: Out in the NFC Championship Game

The Baltimore Ravens are a very good football team and they should make it all the way to the AFC Championship game just based on the lack of tough opponents.

The Ravens have the defense and the running game, but not the quarterback. If a team puts the onus on Joe Flacco, the Ravens will be in trouble. However there is not one team in the AFC that has that capability.

The Ravens will win on the road in Foxboro and will advance to the Super Bowl.

Baltimore Ravens Prediction: AFC Representatives in the Super Bowl

Tom Brady Will Have a Shot at the Super Bowl

The Patriots are a very good team and Brady is having a remarkable season, the problem is their defense. The Patriots won a weak AFC East and benefited from an easy schedule to get the No. 1 seed.

The Patriots have had trouble in the first half of games and have been losing at an alarming rate in the playoffs at home. It happens again this year when they lose the big game to the Ravens.

New England Patriots Prediction: Lose to Baltimore in the AFC Championship

The New Orleans Saints are one of the hottest teams entering the playoffs. Last year it was the Packers that used that momentum to win it all and this year the Saints will do the same. Drew Brees is having an historic season and he will cap it off by bringing his second championship to the Big Easy.

New Orleans Saints Prediction: Super Bowl Champions
