The Philadelphia Eagles were the self-proclaimed “Dream Team†a year ago but they could not put it together and the team ended up with a dismal 8-8 record, missing the NFL post season. This year, the Eagles are making bold statements again as quarterback Michael Vick has proclaimed that the Eagles have all the makings of a dynasty.
“When I look at our football team and what we have on paper, I think about when I was growing up and the great San Francisco 49er teams, the great Green Bay Packer teams, and the great Dallas Cowboy teams, how they just positioned themselves to compete and be one of the best teams out there,” Vick said last week. “I think we have a chance to be that. I think we have a chance to develop a dynasty.”
Will all of the talk backfire or will the Eagles finally play up to their potential this season? The answer is yet to be seen. As usual the NFC East Giants and Cowboys got mentioned in the Super bowl Preview, but not the Eagles. Not everyone is down on the Eagles this year; the oddsmakers think they have a chance to do well.
Philadelphia Eagles Odds: Betting on football is fun and can be profitable, here are the basics of betting on football. A quick look at the predicted win total’s for this year show that the Eagles are expected to have about ten wins, with many people betting they will win more. Online sportsbooks have the Eagles as favorites (1.35-to-1) to win the NFC East, (5-to-1) to win the NFC, and (10-to-1) to win Superbowl XLVII. Those odds are very tempting considering the team the Eagles will field this year. Bet on the Eagles at WagerWeb and get a 200% Signup Bonus, and a FREE 2 Team Parlay to bet on football!
Vick will need to be healthy all season long if the Eagles are going to succeed, and he has plenty of support around him. LeSean McCoy is arguably the best running back in the league and DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are deadly targets on the outside. Jackson should have a breakout season with his contract dispute behind him and the sky is this limit for this offense.[poll id=”9″]
On defense, the Eagles have all of the pieces and can play against any offense in the league. Nnamdi Asomugha will have a big impact on this defense and he will have plenty of turnovers with the pressure of the front big men. Trent Cole is a mad man up front and is coming off his best season as a pro. Jason Babin has 30.5 sacks over the past two years and has a non-stop motor. Babin suffered a strained right calf in camp and hopefully it is not serious, because he will be needed.
Football Betting Angle: Andy Reid knows how to prepare his team after a bye week. In fact the Eagles are 10-2 against the spread (ATS) in the last 12 games with rest. That would indicate they would be a play on October 28th when they host the Atlanta Falcons.
The Eagles have all of the talent to win the NFC and the Super bowl this year, but they must get a productive year from Michael Vick. If Vick can stay healthy all year and play up to his potential, the Eagles could be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.
