New Orleans Pelicans vs Boston Celtics Predictions and Pick

After a busy MLK Day of hoops, it’s back to business as usual on Tuesday night. The Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the NBA and on Tuesday night they will go up against the New Orleans Pelicans. Although the Pelicans do not have as good of an overall record, they are a difficult team to beat. Anthony Davis is the super star of this team and he will provide a good matchup for a tenacious Celtics defense. Before we tip-off on Tuesday night we wanted to throw out some New Orleans Pelicans vs Boston Celtics predictions.

NBA Odds Suggest a Close Game

The Celtics are the better team, but the NBA odds makers believe that this game could be close. The NBA odds at MyBookie, one of the top ranked online sportsbooks has posted a point spread on this game and it may surprise you. The Celtics are small (-4.5) point favorites in this game. That is a bit surprising considering that the Celtics are an incredible 18-5 straight up on the parquet this season.

 Keeping Tabs on Tatum

The Celtics have not played in 4 days and plenty has happened with Jayson Tatum. The young rookie is recovering from an injury that he suffered while playing the Sixers in London.  Tests on the knee came back negative and he expects to play in this game on Tuesday night.  He is an incredible young asset and point producer for this team and will be needed against the Pelicans.  Al Horford is banged up with multiple ailments and the Celtics will need as much help as they can get.

Defense on Davis

If the Celtics want to win this game they will have to try and slow down Anthony Davis. Davis is off a big game where he put up 48 points at MSG against the New York Knicks. The Celtics are known for defense and they have held five teams to less than 100 points during the seven game winning streak.  For the Celtics it may not be about stopping Davis, but limiting him and not allow him to dominate the game. Davis averaged 30.5 points and 15.5 rebounds as the teams split last season’s two meetings.

Previous Meetings

The Celtics have won five of the last six meetings against the Pelicans, but may have to shake off some rust. The Celtics have been on an extend break since returning from London. The Pelicans on the other hand have one day of rest heading into this game. From a basketball betting standpoint, the Pelicans are 2-6 against the spread (ATS) in the last eight meetings. These are not the only trends that stand out to those who bet on basketball.

Trendy Angles

It is always smart to look at betting trends before making New Orleans Pelicans vs Boston Celtics predictions. The Pelicans are just 3-7 ATS when they go up against a team with a winning percentage above .600, which indicates that they struggle against good teams.

The Celtics are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a straight up win of more than 10 points and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. They have cashed in five of the last seven games during the win streak and will be poised to play well against the Pelicans.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Boston Celtics Predictions

The Celtics have a bad habit of starting off slow in the first half of games this year. Expect another slow start as the Celtics will be shaking off the rust. This will allow the strong frontcourt of the Pelicans to get out to an early lead. The Celtics will kick it in gear late in the fourth to steal the game, but it will be closer than Celtics fans will want it to be.
