NBA Playoffs 2018: Spurs vs Warriors Predictions

The Houston Rockets are the top seed in the West, but the Golden State Warriors are now the favorites to win the NBA Championship, according to the latest sportsbook odds. If they have another shot at a championship they will have to get by the pesky San Antonio Spurs in the first round. Although many believe the Cleveland Cavaliers are the only team that will win the East, the West is considered up for grabs. The Spurs vs Warriors predictions are not as easy to make as you might think.

Golden State Warriors

Odds to Win the Western Conference: -112

Odds to win the NBA Championship:  +132

It has been quite a year for the Golden State Warriors. They survived injuries to finish with 58 wins. They only managed to finish second in the Western Conference behind the Houston Rockets and that caused many basketball fans to doubt the Warriors. From a basketball betting standpoint they were an ugly investment as they finished 34-47-1 against the spread (ATS) on the season. To make matters worse sharp shooter Stephen Curry is still a week away from having his health evaluated. So if you are making Spurs vs Warriors predictions you have to consider injuries. Even without Curry this is still a very talented team with Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Last year the Warriors went 16-1 straight up in the playoffs and won a championship. That will be difficult to duplicate in a wide open western conference.

The NBA odds suggest that the Warriors are still the team to beat as they have the best odds to win the West and the championship. This includes having better odds than the Houston Rockets. They looked sluggish as they ended the season by getting routed by the Utah Jazz. They lost by 40 points and came nowhere near to covering as (+8) underdogs. The Warriors lost seven of the last ten games against the spread that they played in. However, these are meaningless games and if anyone can turn it on for the playoffs, it is the Golden State Warriors.

San Antonio Spurs

Odds to Win the Western Conference: +5500

Odds to win the NBA Championship:  +8500

A few years ago the San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors first round series would be a marquee match-up. Not so much anymore. The Spurs are still without their best player and they come into this first round playoff series losing eight straight road games to end the season. Despite looking differently they have 47 wins on the season and they were a winning team against the spread (ATS) this year. They finished the year 42-37-2 ATS this season making money for the basketball bettors. They were, however, 1-4 ATS in the last five games of the season although they were meaningless for the most part.

The Spurs still have quality players that know how to show up in the playoffs and they have one of the best coaches to ever roam the sidelines in the NBA. Gregg Popovich will have this team ready and LaMarcus Aldridge will have a chance at redemption after stumbling last season as a member of the Spurs.

Spurs vs Warriors predictions

San Antonio is too good of a team to get swept and Pop will have a game plan that will give the Warriors fits. The Spurs will nab home court advantage at one point in this series and put a scare into Golden State. The Spurs will be without Kawhi Leonard or they could have a chance to pull off the upset. Instead they will go down fighting before being ejected in the first round.
