The MLB Schedule for Wednesday July 20th features plenty of early games and some excellent pitching matchups.
Here is a look at two of the better matchups with predictions for the day.
Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Boston red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles get an early start to the Wednesday slate as this game goes off at 12:30 eastern.
The Red Sox will start the surprising lefthander Andrew Miller. The lanky lefty is coming off his worst start as a Red Sox, as he gave up seven runs and five walks over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rays. Since joining Boston’s rotation, he has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of his five starts.
Jake Arrieta was again roughed up in his last outing, giving up five earned runs in five innings on eight Indians hits. The right-hander has struggled to piece together longer outings, not pitching through six complete innings since June 10. Now he will try and get the win against the Red Sox.
The umpire may be the key to this game as Mike Winter’s works behind the dish. The Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 games with Winters behind home plate and the Home team is 6-0 in Winters’ last six games behind home plate vs. Baltimore. Miller has been winning but is hittable and brings a high ERA into this contest.
The Orioles surprise with a victory to close out the series and they get the win.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets
The New York Mets are a different team when they have a healthy Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes in the lineup. They are both looking to impress other teams in baseball as they will be trade targets with the upcoming deadline approaching.
In his last start, on July 7 against the D-backs, Kyle McClellan gave the Cardinals a quality start but was handed a hard-luck loss. He allowed three earned runs on six hits in seven innings.
R.A. Dickey was not at his sharpest last time out against Philadelphia. He gave up four runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out five and allowed two walks in a Mets loss. In three July starts, he is 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA.
The baseball betting trends have the Mets as a favorite to win this game. The Cardinals are 1-5 in their last six against the National League East and the Cardinals are 3-8 in their last 11 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5. This game won’t be close as the Mets pull away early and turn this into a blowout.
Back the home team Mets in this game.
