Major League Baseball: World Series Futures After a Week of Play

Major League Baseball has gotten through one week of the season. The season has started for many like they were projected. There has not been a ton of team surprises, but the teams projected to be bad, for the most part – have been bad. Looking at the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins. The best teams will eventually rise to the top, but as many projected, the Chicago Cubs have started there. Let’s take a look at some World Series Future Bets following just one week of play:

The divisional leaders through the first week of the season are as followed: In the National League Central, both the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds got off to great starts, as they are 5-1. In the National League East, despite a couple cancellations, the Washington Nationals finished as the only team above .500. The Nationals are 3-1 and lead the National League East. In the National League West, the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers are at the top. The Giants are 5-2, while the Dodgers come into the game with a 4-3 record.

Now, looking at the American League; the Baltimore Orioles are absolutely on fire. The Orioles are the lone unbeaten team in all of Major League Baseball. They lead the American League East, with six straight wins. In the American League Central, the Kansas City Royals are the defending World Series Champions, and have started the season at 4-1. The White Sox are 5-2 as well. Finally, in the American League West; the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers are at the top of the division, but are 4-3 and 3-4 respectively.

Let’s look at odds to win the 2016 World Series. The Baltimore Orioles may be a nice team under the radar. Baltimore can score, and score at will. The Orioles are doing a bunch of their offensive damage without Adam Jones. Baltimore is currently listed at +2800 over at to win the 2016 World Series. That’s quite a deal for this Orioles team.

The big favorite was the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are off to a great start. Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta are a great 1-2 at the top of the pitching rotation, and the offense for the Cubs can really rake. At, the Cubs are listed at +600 which is the biggest favorite in all of Major League Baseball. Chicago did lose Kyle Schwarber, so many are jumping off the Cubs wagon a bit, still may be a decent time to grab them.

The Washington Nationals are off to a good start as well. Max Scherzer and Bryce Harper could be the Cy Young and MVP this season. Scherzer leads a nice pitching staff, while Harper is the main cog in a streaky offense. The Nationals should win the National League East, unless they have a late season fold like last year. The Washington Nationals wouldn’t be a bad bet to win the World Series at +1200.

The last sneaky surprise we will give you after Week 1 of the Major League Baseball season is the Chicago White Sox. Chris Sale may be the best pitcher in the American League, and youngsters such as Carlos Rodon and Jose Quintana are solid. Chicago improved their offense as well. The Chicago White Sox are listed at +2800 ( to win the World Series. Not a bad gamble!
