Kolb’s first game as the number one starter will be easier with a full display of weapons at his disposal. Tight End Brent Celek and wide receivers DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, will give him plenty of pass catching targets. LeSean McCoy will get the carries in the backfield and his explosive running makes this offense fully capable of putting up some big points on the scoreboard. They will have to score is the want to keep up with the offense of the packers.
Aaron Rodgers is quickly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the league and is poised to put up a big numbers in the passing game this year. In order to do that he will need time to throw and he will have to stay healthy. Rodgers was sacked 50 times last year, and if that happens again this year the Packers could struggle. Veterans Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton return at tackle, and Iowa offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga joins the team on the front line. In the preseason Green Bay quarterbacks were sacked just four times and all of those were taken by Matt Flynn so things are looking up. The true test will be in this game when the go up against the pass rush of the Eagles.
The Eagles finished tied for third in the entire league when it came to punishing the opposing quarterback. They finished the season with 44 sacks and return the major pass rushers from 2009. Trent Cole finished with 12.5 sacks last year and he will be back to terrorize opposing quarterbacks. The Packers also have a very good defense that ranked high in several defensive categories but they will be shorthanded for this game. The secondary will be hurting for the Packers as cornerback Al Harris hit the physically unable to perform list (PUP) list along with safety Atari Bigby. On the front line they will be without 2009 starting defensive end Johnny Jolly who is suspended indefinitely and without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Game time Prediction: Head Coach Andy Reid has made sure that his team is ready to go early in the season. The Eagles have finished at 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last seven games in September. Philadelphia has a good record against the Packers covering the number in the last five out of six games at home and 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. Finally Philadelphia is 28-13 ATS vs. NFC North and in a very close game the edge is with the Eagles and taking the points.
Final: Philadelphia 27 Green Bay 24
